Antique 1850s The Lady of the Lake book by Sir Walter Scott with a beautiful dark red leather and gold gilt cover. This is an Author's Edition published in Edinburgh, Scotland.
The six-canto poem set in Scotland tells the story of King James V's struggle against James Douglas, and the affections of three suitors towards James Douglas' daughter, Ellen.
There is no publish date, but there are two inscriptions from 2nd September 1853 and 22nd August 1885. The cover, spine, and pages have some wear and discoloration/browning due to age and some chipping of the cover. The intro page is torn as pictured and there are a couple of pressed flowers (also pictured). The book measures about 5.4" x 3.5".
